Happy Father’s Day!
We’d like to wish a very Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads that are part of the Arpin family. Your families are appreciative for all that you do and we hope that this weekend you can sit back and enjoy the holiday.
Like we did with Mother’s Day, we’d like to share with you the origins of Father’s Day! Sonora Dodd thought of the idea in 1909 while she listened to a Mother’s Day sermon. While it was inevitable that a Father’s Day would be created, it’s cool to see that it was kick started directly from something involving Mother’s Day.
Up until 1966, Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, which was the birthdate of Dodd’s father. In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day going forward, and in 1972, President Richard Nixon signed the public law to make the holiday permanent.
Here are a few other cool facts about the holiday:
- The estimated number of fathers in the US in 2014 was 72.2 million
- The estimated number of fathers that were also grandfathers in 2014 was 29.2 million
- The number of single fathers in 2016 living with their children under age 18 was 2 million
- The estimated number of stay-at-home dads in 2016 was 209,000
