Operation Safe Driver Week Comes To An End
From October 16-22, 2016, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) conducted their popular “Operation Safe Driver” initiative all over the country. Since being launched in 2007, this initiative involves law enforcement agencies engaging with all sorts of drivers to ensure they’re following the rules of the road.
According to the CVSA’s website, the leading cause of crashes is due to unsafe driver behaviors. A study done by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) called the “Large Truck Crash Causation Study” cites that these behaviors are the reason for 88 percent of large truck crashes and 93 percent of passenger-vehicle crashes.
The examples that the website lists as “unsafe driver behaviors” are:
- Failure to use a seatbelt
- Distracted driving (usually caused by texting)
- Failure to obey traffic control devices
- Traveling too closely to another vehicle
- Improper lane changing
The results from last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week were very eye opening and you can view those statistics here.
Even though this initiative only takes place this week, it’s important to always be safe while on the road. Our drivers take all precautions necessary, so please give them the same courtesy as well!
