Packing 101

One of the most important things that one needs to think about when moving is how everything will be packed up. There are two main options: either the moving company you hire can take care of it or you can do it on your own. The latter may save you money, but it can be a difficult task if you’re not properly prepared.

Let’s start with the basics. First, you need boxes, wrapping materials, and tape. Have a marker nearby so you can properly label everything so it’s not a guessing game when your goods arrive at your destination.

Now that you have your basic items, it’s time to pack properly. When packing a box, make sure that it’s no more than 50 pounds to avoid the box from breaking. To avoid your goods from breaking, make sure to use wrapping materials to fill in the gaps of the box. This will avoid your things from moving around.

Even though a moving company will transport items that you pack yourself, there are items by law that cannot be moved, such as flammables, explosives, firearms, and fireworks.

If you have any valuables such as jewelry or irreplaceable items such as family photos, we advise that you travel with those items. That way, you’ll know exactly where they are at all times.
