Canadian Heritage

The Arpin family had its earliest roots in Canada, hailing from Drummondville, Quebec. The family emigrated to the U.S. in the late 1880’s and settled in Rhode Island. In 1900, the company known today as Arpin Group, Inc., was established. Through the years, the company has grown exponentially, but has remained family owned and operated and focused on its core business—the moving and storage of household goods and personal effects.

In 1992, due to the increased demand for cross-border moving services, Arpin opened its Canadian division. Since that time, we've helped tens of thousands of customers and their families through the details and challenges of a cross-border move to or from Canada. Arpin's success as a Canadian moving company lies in its ability to develop and maintain trained and knowledgeable staffs in both the United States and Canada that are thoroughly familiar with the latest packing and loading techniques as well as the customs rules and regulations of both countries.

Cross-Border Leadership

Arpin is committed to serving the Canadian market and is an expert at handling the myriad of complex details associated with cross-border moving transactions.

Tom Stephens is Vice President of Arpin Van Lines’ cross-border services’ division.

  • Tom was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, where he began his moving industry career holding positions as packer, driver, salesperson, and claims manager.
  • In 1978, Tom moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S., and served as Director for the country’s largest moving agent trade association. During his tenure, Tom provided U.S. congressional testimonies in Washington, D.C., and became their chief lobbyist during the Reagan de-regulation era of the moving industry.
  • In 1986, Tom returned to Toronto, Canada, to serve as President of a major van line.
  • Tom joined Arpin Group, Inc. in 1992 and has since been charged with overseeing its cross-border services’ division.
