Mark's Moving & Storage donates slippers to VA Hospitals

Mark's Moving & Storage, Inc. has recently donated 600 pairs of slippers worth $18,000 to three area Veterans Administration hospitals in Jamaica Plain, Roxbury, and Brockton.  The slippers were part of a large lot donated to the United Way Distribution Services store located within Mark's Westborough warehouse.

The United Way store solicits donated items from local companies, and non-profit member agencies are able to receive the donated items for a small portage fee.  Dave Brower, the Mark's representative who handles the United Way relationship, suggested that the local Veterans Administration hospitals be contacted about the slippers.  Mark Silverman, President of Mark's, offered to pay the portage fee and deliver the six pallet loads of slippers to the hospitals.

Mary Peak, who manages the Veterans Administration's Voluntary Service organization, expressed her appreciation for the "Slippers For Soldiers" donation, "Without your support, we could not provide for the smaller niceties that make hospitalization more bearable.  Your kindness also reflects the compassion that our community feels for our veterans and soldiers."
